Weekend crime round-up

An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from June 28 to 30.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:

Friday – A home along Willem van Zyl Avenue in Minnebron was burgled of TVs, gaming consoles, a laptop and jewellery.

Saturday – A generator, tools, paint and other valuables were stolen from an address along Derby Avenue.
The garage on the property was broken into.

• A car engine and some wiring were stolen during a burglary at a business along Goods Road.

• Armed robbers targeted a Wenden Avenue tavern and made off with cash, bottles of liquor, TVs and other valuables.

The owner had locked up for the evening and was leaving the premises at around 24:30, when he was confronted by four men. The robbers demanded money and threatened the owner with a gun.

• A man was robbed of his firearm and cash by two gunmen along Porter Avenue in Dalview. The man arrived at an address along this street at around 06:30 and was approached by the pair as he was opening the gate.

They fired shots at him and his companions and ordered them to lie on the ground. After searching the man and taking his belongings, the duo fled on foot and continued to shoot at the victims.

• A vehicle parked at an address along Regents Avenue in Anzac was stripped of its wheels.

Sunday – Police were called to an address along Hospital Road in Brakpan North after a woman was fatally stabbed during an alleged domestic dispute.

SAPS were notified of the incident at about 21:45. Upon arrival, the responding officer was met by a paramedic, who declared the woman dead on the scene.

She had been stabbed once in the chest. The woman’s boyfriend was arrested on a murder charge.
