This Mandela Day, give back at Eventide Old Age Home and Red Cross

Paint, food, drink and volunteers are needed to help brighten the premises.

The Brakpan branch of the South African Red Cross Society and the Eventide Old Age Home will get a facelift on Mandela Day (July 18).

Volunteers and sponsors are urged to join the staff to paint the buildings on the premises and spend time with the elderly residents.

Anyone willing to sponsor paint can call the admin office on 010 023 6476.

Other than paint, food and drink are necessary to feed the volunteers because they will be hard at work, and general donations for the home.

Eventide always needs basic food staples, such as coffee, sugar, mielie meal, rice, oats, Weetbix, cornflakes and pasta.

They also need cleaning supplies and washing powder.

Any donations would be welcome because the Red Cross and Eventide will put anything to good use, including bedding, clothes, and household knick-knacks, which they can sell to raise funds in jumble sales if the residents do not directly use them.

For more information, call centre manager Collen Huma on 079 862 7030.
