Weekend crime round-up

An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from June 21 to 23.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:

Friday – A trailer was stolen from a business along Coert Steynberg Street in Van Eck Park.

Saturday – Security guards on duty at the water reservoir in Sallies Village were robbed of their personal belongings by two intruders at around 01:30.

The robbers threatened the guards with a gun. They fled with keys, cellphones and wireless earphones.

• A woman reported that her son was robbed at about 16:00 by the occupants of a white Toyota Corolla at the Mall@Carnival.

The woman sent her son to the mall to buy some groceries and withdraw money. While he was there, he was approached by the men, one of whom asked if he could assist him by withdrawing money at an ATM.

The man handed over his bank card and provided the PIN. When the woman’s son returned from the ATM and told the man the PIN was incorrect, the man pointed a gun at him and took his iPhone and R300 in cash.

Sunday – A man was attacked and robbed by a group of between five and eight men along Goods Road.

The victim was walking home at around 16:00 when two of the men asked him for money. The men started to assault him and he fell to the ground.

One of his assailants then stabbed him in the arm and leg. The men took the victim’s cellphone and R40 in cash.
