Weekend crime round-up

An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from June 14 to 17.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the long weekend:

Friday – A male pedestrian was robbed at gunpoint by two men along Airport Drive in Dalpark. The victim was stopped by two men travelling in a silver/grey Nissan Almera at around 06:45, who offered him a lift.

After the victim declined, one of the men pointed a gun at him. He was robbed of the bag he was carrying and his cellphone.

• A silver-coloured Ford Figo was stolen from Muir Avenue.

Saturday – A generator and a Big Boy scooter were stolen from an address along Selbourne Avenue. Dogs were poisoned and killed at this home and the neighbouring property.

• Two computer monitors were stolen during a burglary at a business along Coert Steynberg Street in Van Eck Park.

• A Volkswagen Microbus was stolen from the corner of Prince George and Kitzinger avenues.

Sunday – The driver of a white Volkswagen City Golf was robbed of the vehicle after experiencing car troubles along New Kleinfontein Road in Leachville.

The driver and his passenger found themselves stranded on the side of the road at around 02:30 with a flat car battery.

Three men travelling in a maroon sedan stopped and offered to help. One of the men got into the Golf, while the other two helped the driver to push the car.

They got the car started and the man then drove off. His accomplices followed in the sedan, leaving the driver and passenger behind.

• A home in Victoria Avenue was burgled of cellphones and cash.

• A white Volkswagen Polo was stolen from Winterhoek Drive in Helderwyk Estate.

Monday – A man was arrested following a burglary at an address along Botha Street in Brenthurst. It is believed the intruder had at least one accomplice.

A neighbour raised the alarm after seeing people on the property. A fridge, a set of speakers, a step ladder and other household items were found outside the home.

It was also found the alarm system and an electrical box had been damaged. An ice-cream machine and some tools were taken.

Entry to the house was gained by forcing open a door, and two crowbars and a steel bar were recovered on the scene.
