Esda does it again with a 100% pass rate

The school has celebrated a 100% pass rate since it opened its doors.

The Esda Nursing Education Institution’s class of 2023 sits and listens attentively as their principal, Yolanda Els, presents the graduation speech.

The third group to graduate from the institute received congratulatory words before being handed their certificates of qualifications in nursing.

“Not only are you here to receive the reward after your hard work, but for us as the academic staff of this school, there is no better reward than looking at your happy faces and knowing we had a hand in your achievements.”

The nurses completed their work-integrated learning at the school’s accredited facilities – the Heidelberg Provincial Hospital, the Ekurhuleni Community Centres and Rus ‘n Bietjie Home for senior citizens.

“Our school is a Christian-based, dynamic, and nurturing learning provider that supports the growth and aspirations of its learners with core values that are vital components in the development of a nurse and emphasised in our programmes.

“These include love for God and caring, with components of compassion, competence, confidence, and conscience. We are also committed to a culture of excellence, discipline, integrity, and professionalism,” said Els.

She thanked all the contributors for helping to make the course successful.

“I express my appreciation to their management and staff and the Gauteng Department of Health. Thank you for accommodating our students. Without your support and active involvement in the training of these graduates, they would not be able to celebrate here today.

“I also thank our other clinical facilities like Epilepsy SA, Springs Retirement Village and the Frank Mynhardt Centre, where our caregivers do their clinical practicals.

”We are grateful that we have started this year with 30 learners after the South African Nursing Council granted us 10 additional learner posts.”

She gave an honorary mention to the staff of the school.

“Erna Horgan, our registrar and secretary; Michelle de Villiers, our IT and e-learning specialist; and Ellen Mabete, our domestic worker.

“I am immensely proud to be the principal of this wonderful school. It is a privilege for me to work with this amazing team to make our school the best it can be.”

She gave the graduating nurses parting words when she described their journey together.

“This is a vital milestone in your life and the lives of those who supported you throughout your studies. Today is a celebration of your hard work and commitment, all of which are virtues that will support you in your future nursing profession.

The overall top student (practical and clinical), Inathi Mnyombolo.

“It was not always easy. There were some long nights with no electricity, anxious moments, lockdown periods, riots, tears, and much laughter, but you learnt to keep going, no matter what. You have made yourself, our school, and your family very proud today,” she said.

The institution enjoys a 100% pass rate, with six learners attaining distinctions in theory, 13 in their clinical practical and 18 in theory and clinical practical.

“I trust you will fondly remember your experience at our school and keep the institution close to your heart. As you move forward in your career, remember to serve God and believe in yourself, your talents and the skills that brought you to this special day.

“Always strive to impact your patients, families, and communities significantly.”
