Weekend crime round-up

An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from June 7 to 9.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:

Friday – A TV, laptops and other valuables were stolen during a burglary at an address along Malan Street in Sherwood Gardens.

• A home in Glamorgan Avenue, Dalview, was burgled of laptops, a computer and an inverter.

• Two business burglaries took place – cash was stolen from a kiosk store in the Mall@Carnival, and electrical cables were stolen from a business along Muir Avenue.

• A lone gunman robbed two security guards at the water pump station in Sallies Village. One of the guards was returning from a patrol at around 20:00 when she found her colleague being held at gunpoint by an intruder.

The guard was robbed of her cellphone, and money was taken from her colleague. The robber also took the guards’ pepper spray and then fled the scene.

Saturday – Two security guards on duty at a business in Lemmer Road, Vulcania, were tied up with an electric cable during an armed robbery.

About eight robbers, some armed with pistols, gained access to the premises at around 03:00. One of the guards was assaulted and robbed of his cellphone and other personal belongings.

After overpowering the guards, the robbers helped themselves to various goods including automotive batteries, a battery charger and speakers. The combined value of the stolen goods is over R200 000.

• A pair of sunglasses was stolen from a vehicle parked along Dirk van der Hoff Street in Rand Collieries.
The vehicle’s front passenger window was broken.

Sunday – No priority cases were reported at the time of publication.
