Weekend crime round-up

An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from May 31 to June 2.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:

Friday – Two batteries were stolen from a truck parked at an address along Prince George Avenue in Anzac.

• A laptop was stolen during a break-in at a residence in the Mgongo informal settlement in Sherwood Gardens.

Saturday – A man was robbed of his cellphone, money and other belongings along Voortrekker Road at around midnight.

The victim was walking home when he noticed he was being followed by three men. Once they entered the subway, the men stopped him and demanded his cellphone.

The victim was then searched by the men, one of whom was armed with a knife. Before fleeing, one of the robbers kicked the victim.

• A woman was raped in front of her partner in Dalpark after they were accosted by two men.

The victim and her boyfriend were walking home from the shop at around 20:20 when they were stopped by the men at the corner of Van Dyk and Louw streets.

They were threatened with a gun and both were searched. The boyfriend was robbed of his cellphone and the woman was ordered to undress, after which one of the men raped her.

• Tools and a diagnostic machine were stolen from a car parked along Hope Avenue.

• A Suzuki motorbike was stolen from Prince George Avenue in Brenthurst.

• A trailer was stolen from a business along 1st Road in Witpoort Estates. Two trailers were also stripped of tyres, and a water pump was stolen.

Sunday – Tyres and rims, pairs of shoes, swimming pool pumps, geyser copper parts and other valuables were stolen from a garage at a residence along Jansen Street in Sherwood Gardens.
