Sherwood Gardens granny fights off house robber

One of the intruders first tried to smother the victim, and then attempted to strangle her.

A 60-year-old Sherwoord Gardens woman was attacked in her bedroom during the early hours of Tuesday.

According to police information, the incident took place at an address along Malan Street after three intruders gained entry to the house by forcing open a door.

The victim was roused from sleep at around 02:30 and saw a man standing next to her bed.

She then realised there were two other men in the room.

When the victim started calling out to warn her grandchildren, one of the intruders shouted at her to “shut up”.

He then attempted to smother her with a pillow.

The victim continued screaming for her grandchildren, and the man then tried to strangle her.

She successfully fought him off.

After failing in their attempts to remove a TV mounted to the wall, the robbers fled with two cellphones valued at R4 500.

They left behind a crowbar in the victim’s bedroom, and a bolt cutter and a pipe wrench were found in the yard.

A house robbery case is under investigation by Brakpan SAPS.
