Victory for homeless Spurs

The club is still without a home ground.

Brakpan Spurs’ U15 side may be struggling to find a place they can call home but they have not let that show in their performances.

They kicked off the season on Sunday with a 4-0 win over HP Serengeti Academy in Kempton Park.

The match was supposed to be a home match for Spurs but with the local team not being able to find a venue to use for their home matches they have to play the season opener away.

“It’s difficult because we don’t have a place to train. It is also tricky as parents cannot always come to support the team when we are playing away,” said club founder Jabulani Munene.

Munene said that the club has been trying to engage the municipality to let them use the old Brakpan Bowling Club premises.

“We don’t know who to speak to. We don’t mind maintaining the place. All we need is permission to use the premises in order to keep football in Brakpan going and to keep the children off the streets,” he said.

Munene has also considered approaching the Far East Rand Hospital for their field.

“It’s sad that we are from Brakpan but we could play our games in Springs, at a hospital,” he added.
