Spurs gets new players, administrators

The club has also welcomed new players.

Brakpan Spurs Football Club are looking to get into the 2024 season by doing things differently this year.

Over the years, club owner Jabulani Munene ran the club by himself as the administration and coach. The 10th year of the Spurs’ existence sees Munene delegating some duties to others.

“I’ve decided that this year, I won’t try to do everything myself,” he said.

“I’ve decided to get volunteers and senior players to play various roles at the club. I appointed head coaches, a club manager, kit managers and a secretary this weekend. This year, my role is to oversee every department and act as a founder.”

Papi Letube was appointed the club’s new chairperson, while Sihlesenkosi Mhlongo became the vice. Jacob Makolatook on the roles of treasurer and marketing manager.

The club registrar is Sifiso Seyama. Muzikayise Zwane will manage the juniors, while Dumisani Msiza is the seniors’ manager. Not only have Spurs recruited new administrators, but they have added to their players.

“We’ve recruited well, with several players from Super Eagles joining us,” said Munene.

“We will have strong teams because the Super Eagles were doing very well and will strengthen our different teams.”

The club founder will have an opportunity to look at some of the juniors in action because the U15 side will participate in a tournament on Sunday hosted by Benoni Northerns.

“This will be our first game of the year since we played in the U13 plate final last year,” said Munene.

“The boys are excited about the tournament and seem to be ready. Winning this tournament would be a great start to the season for the boys.”

Spurs will host a junior tournament (U10 to U15) on March 30 and 31. Munene feels that the club is strong and only needs sponsors.

“We are a non-profit organisation, and local businesses assisting with sponsorship would help a lot,” said the founder.
