Robbers raid cellphone shop

The duo struck near closing time.

Goods valued at almost R300 000 were stolen during an armed robbery at a cellphone shop in the Mall@Carnival last Wednesday evening.

According to Brakpan police, the robbers pounced at around 18:40 as the employees were preparing to close the shop.

Two men, one of whom was armed with firearm, entered the shop and threatened three staff members at gunpoint.

The victims were taken to a back office where another staff member was conducting stocktaking.

One of the employees was ordered to open the safes in the office while the others were told to lie on the floor.

The robbers emptied the safes and took all the cellphones, a laptop, a wristwatch and cash.

The employees were also robbed of their cellphones. No shots were fired and no injuries were reported.
