Letter: Replacing prepaid meters is a waste of money

This resident believes council should spend money where it is actually needed.

Tess writes by email:

With reference to ‘City replaces old meters’ in the Herald’s March 1 edition: Why this waste of money?

My meter in the kitchen runs perfectly fine and has a green light which turns red when the power is getting low.

I then know I need to buy power if it’s not enough till month-end. Or, if you pick up the meter it shows you how many units you have left.

Most people haven’t a clue how to bypass power. I pay my monthly prepaid and load it. If I notice I am using too much power, I cut down.

So to me, coming from a council that does not cut dead trees or trim trees which are encroaching on our property, this is a huge waste of money.

Spend money where it is needed. Most people have cut down on power consumption because of the cost. New meters will not solve that issue.

The price of electricity is shocking. Put people in council who know what they are doing, not people who have buddies they hire.
