Clean Brakpan makes another positive impact

Join the movement and help bring some shine back to Brakpan.

The Clean Brakpan community project is getting closer to its goal of restoring pride and beauty to the town with every clean-up it undertakes.

Last week was a busy one for the group, who tackled different neglected areas, including the Brakpan Magistrate’s Court, the Post office depot on Prince George Avenue and the dual carriageway along Boyd and Van der Merwe streets in Brenthurst.

Their focus then turned to the Brakpan SPCA for a community clean-up on Saturday. According to Lisa Jordaan, co-founder of the group and secretary of the Brakpan CPF, a small business contractor was used for the clean-up at the court.

This was made possible through donations received from sponsors and members of the public.

“During the week we try do clean-ups by hiring workers, who are usually vetted homeless people referred by Rata, or small business contractors from donated funds,” she said.

“Some of our CPF patrollers who are retired also help during the week. On Saturdays we do community volunteer projects.”

The Brakpan SPCA was thrilled with the group’s assistance.

“The fantastic squad from Clean Brakpan zoomed in as promised, armed with mowers and blowers, and turned our SPCA grounds into a spotless paradise. They mowed the lawns, tamed the trees, banished dust bunnies, hauled away clutter and left our shelter gleaming,” the society posted on its Facebook page.

“We can’t thank our community enough for rallying behind us in such a unique and wonderful way. What a bunch of absolute gems we have in our little town!

Weeds, overgrown vegetation and litter was removed from the area, making a remarkable difference.

“Clean Brakpan is the talk of the town for their stellar deeds, making our Brakpan shine brighter than ever before. They’re on a mission to keep our town safe and spotless, and they’re doing it all out of the goodness of their hearts.

“Thank you from the depths of our hearts for lightening our load, so we can focus on what truly matters, our precious furry friends.”

The Clean Brakpan community project was started at the end of last year by a group of long-time Brakpan residents and dedicated CPF members.

The work they do with the CPF allows them to see the link between urban decay and the increase in crime, drug abuse, GBV and other social ills.

The group has many projects planned for the restoration of Brakpan, wherever it is needed. This is, however, challenging as large amounts of money are required for equipment hire, petrol and labour.

The pavement outside the Brakpan Magistrate’s Court was in desperate need of attention.

Their vision is for businesses or sponsors to adopt a project (an area, park or road) and arrange a clean-up and then maintain the site.

They believe everyone deserves to live in a safe, clean and healthy environment. The group has appealed to all Brakpan residents and businesses to help make Clean Brakpan a massive movement for positive change.
