Community rallies together for clean-up

Residents are taking steps to beautify and clean up neglected areas in their neighbourhoods.

More and more community members are embracing the do-it-yourself approach when it comes to keeping their suburbs clean.

Dalpark Ext 6 was the latest suburb to get some TLC with residents and other role players rolling up their sleeves for a clean-up in the area on February 17.

The clean-up started at 07:30 and ended at 15:00. Jessy Naiker, Brakpan CPF Exco patrol officer, was amazed at the results.

“What an impact. We managed to clean most parts of the Dalpark 6 sports field and surrounding area which is one of our crime-ridden spots,” he said.

“The drainage systems at the bridge running across Etosha Street have not been cleaned in more than 15 years. Now the water can easily flow through.

“During rainy days, residents have a challenge passing that area. The main entrance at the robots were also cleaned.”

Parts of Hexrivier Street and a nearby open veld were also attended to.

“It is without a doubt that Riaan Marais, his son and team went out of their way to assist Dalpark.

“They came all the way from Witok Estates and cut the grass with two tractors at no cost. We only supplied them with diesel,” said Naiker.

“We applaud you Riaan and team.”

He added there were residents who assisted and did their best to make a difference. A refuse truck was also dispatched by the waste management department to remove refuse collected during the clean-up.

Naiker extended his gratitude to all those who helped make the clean-up possible, which included the Sector Four CPF, the residents’ association and various businesses.

This was not the only area to be cleaned in Brakpan over the weekend and the same day saw volunteers and members of the #cleanbrakpan group tackle the area in the vicinity of the Van Eck Substation.
