Soul Outreach and Upliftment Centre hopes to expand to be more self-sustainable in 2024

The NPO is tackling a couple major projects, including merging with a pre-school and daycare centre to support families in need.

Soul Outreach and Upliftment Centre is heading into 2024 with big plans.

The shelter and soup kitchen is merging with a daycare centre and pre-school currently known as Little Minions, though they are looking to change the name.

They will be revamping the school, as well as providing bread, fruit and vegetables for the children from now on.

Families that utilise the shelter can send their children to the daycare while they search for employment, for which Soul will provide transport.

In 2023, the Soul soup kitchen grew to 300 people per week, and the NPO has plans to address the high cost of food in 2024.

The shelter now has a limit of six months, during which families or persons have to work hard to become independent to discourage stagnation.

Shelter inhabitants have access to skills development, job-seeking assistance and other social assistance to ensure they become independent and build lives for themselves.

Soul also aims to start a project each month this year, with January’s project being called “shoe us your love”. This project will run into March, where they will collect any second-hand shoes in good condition to give to the people who use their services and others in need.

Currently, the NPO offers services of the shelter, soup kitchen, daycare and food distribution to old age homes.

They would like to, however, move to a plot or farm where they can grow their own food to be more self-sustainable.

This will also allow more space for the charity shop, as well as shelter residents.

Soul is looking to expand all their projects in 2024, and they couldn’t do it without donors and sponsors helping them. Interested parties may contact Soul at souloutreach2019@gmail.com or contact director Martina Stickling on 081 745 7182.
