Truckload of toilet paper stolen by bogus traffic cops

Hijackers on a roll.

Criminals masquerading as metro police officers made off with a cargo of toilet paper valued at over R400 000 after hijacking a truck driver in Brakpan on January 10.

According to local SAPS, the 50-year-old driver was travelling along Springs Road in Witpoortjie at around 15:40 when he was instructed to pull over by the occupants of a marked metro police vehicle.

After stopping, the driver was approached by an “officer” who asked for his driver’s licence.

The man told him his licence was fake and he would be issuing him a fine.

The driver was then forced into the metro police vehicle by another man who threatened him with a gun and pushed the weapon into the driver’s mouth.

The men then covered the driver’s face with a cloth and they drove off. He overheard the men talking about offloading the stock.

The men then forced the driver to drink a substance which made him dizzy and he was thrown from the vehicle.

The driver was assisted by community members and taken to the Pholosong Hospital in Tsakani.

The truck and trailer were later recovered but its cargo of toilet paper was missing.

A truck hijacking docket was opened.
