Motorist stabbed with box cutter during attempted hijacking

The man was able to fight off his attackers.

A 59-year-old Brakpan man was stabbed with a box cutter during an attempted hijacking along Main Reef Road near The Rock Raceway on January 11.

According to local police, the victim was travelling towards town when he stopped on the roadside at around 14:15 to urinate.

Upon his return, he saw a white Toyota Corolla parked in front of his car. He was then approached by two men, one of whom tried to hit him in the face with a rock.

The victim avoided the blow and swiftly searched for his car keys. The second man, however, attacked the victim and stabbed him with a box cutter several times in the chest.

The victim was able to fight back and kicked the man. A woman got out of the Corolla to assist the attackers and the three then returned to the car and drove off.

The victim attempted to follow their vehicle but was unsuccessful. He sought medical treatment for his injuries and then reported the incident to SAPS.

A case of attempted hijacking is under investigation.
