Robbery suspect in custody after shooting
The resident returned fire after the suspect shot at him.
Neighbours in Minnebron banded together in pursuit of two criminals following an armed robbery last Friday evening.
A suspect (37) suffered a gunshot wound and was taken to hospital under police guard. Local SAPS were notified of the incident just before 22:00.
According to police information, a resident of Gert Bezuidenhout Avenue was at home when he heard his neighbour calling him.
He went outside and his neighbour informed him he had just been robbed of his cellphone. They then saw two men running into the field adjacent to their homes and gave chase.

One of the fleeing men fired a shot at the resident, who then returned fire. A shoot-out ensued, during which the fleeing suspect was shot in the leg.
He was restrained and a firearm was found near him. His accomplice managed to evade capture.
Security personnel and police then arrived on the scene. The suspect was arrested and taken by ambulance to the Far East Rand Hospital.
He faces charges of armed robbery and the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
