Soul Outreach and Upliftment holds soup kitchen

The NPO and homeless shelter does frequent outreach programmes to care for the less fortunate in town.

Soul Outreach and Upliftment Centre held a soup kitchen for the homeless last Wednesday, feeding around 150 people.

The NPO and homeless shelter works hard to help less fortunate members of the community get back on their feet, with frequent outreach events like the soup kitchen, but also with shelter, help with CVs and finding jobs and providing food.

As a way to motivate people who utilise the shelter to not stagnate, and also to generate some income to better care for them, the shelter now asks for fees.

These are R40 a night for a warm bed, R60 for a bed and a warm shower, and R80 for a bed, shower and nutritious meal.

While people stay at the shelter they help them create CVs and apply for jobs and assist them with any steps they need to take towards rebuilding their lives.

When someone enters the shelter, they receive a care package of toiletries to help them clean up and feel human again. The shelter receives mostly food donations.

The shelter would greatly appreciate donations of toiletries, clean clothes, food, and where possible monetary donations so they can pay bills and maintain the shelter.

Interested parties may contact Martina Stickling on 081 745 7182 to arrange donations.
