New face at Brakpan SAPS

Crime prevention and safety, a priority for new Vispol commander.

The Brakpan SAPS recently welcomed a new appointee into the fold.

Colonel Robert Makopo, who has 31 years’ of service in the police, is the newly appointed Vispol commander.

Makopo, was 24 years old when he started his police career as a student Constable. He trained at the SAPS Hammanskraal Academy.

He was promoted to Captain and then Lieutenant-Colonel, which gave him experience as a Vispol support head from 2002.

Makopo was promoted to Colonel and was appointed as a Vispol commander at the Alberton SAPS in 2020.

He pointed out that crime remains a nuisance to the SAPS and that there is a need to establish and conserve good relations with all stakeholders.

The Vispol commander indicated that he is confident that his experience will be of great advantage to the Brakpan community and crime prevention and safety will be prioritised.
