EMPD tip of the week

Ensure your vehicle is roadworthy ahead of the wet summer months.

As the summer months approach, and with it rainfall and hot conditions, the EMPD has reminded motorists of the importance of ensuring their vehicles are roadworthy.

Vehicle pre-trip inspections are compulsory before driving any vehicle. Check and attend to dripping oil leaks so that they do not affect other road users.

Check for worn tyres on the vehicle, because if they are not in a good condition, especially smooth, they might burst when the tarmac is hot.

During rainfall, ensure that windscreen wiper blades are in a good condition and should wipe in a way that they afford the driver a clear view.

The front windscreen should not be cracked, especially on the side of the driver.

When the road is slippery and wet, it takes long for any vehicle to stop especially when it is carrying a heavy load.

All vehicle lights must be in a good working condition mainly when there is mist or fog to afford other road users a clear view.

Lights can be used any time of the day, more especially when the driver cannot see clearly.
