EMPD hosts domestic violence awareness campaign

The EMPD public awareness campaigns on domestic violence aimed to educate community members about the prevalence of abuse and encourage people to take action.

Members of the EMPD’s Social Crime Prevention Unit rolled out talks on domestic violence at the Skoonplaas informal settlement and Leachville on July 22 and 23.

The EMPD officers reached out to the communities to address the burning issues that affected them.

The officers not only focused on vulnerable groups, but they also covered areas where various social ills and unemployment are prevalent and hotspots that mostly fuel domestic violence cases.

Members of the Skoonplaas informal settlement and Leachville were encouraged to speak out on domestic violence abuse.

With women and children being victims, the EMPD saw the need to engage with community members to help curb domestic violence cases.

The community members were also educated on how crimes can be reported and the importance of assisting anyone they know who is experiencing domestic violence abuse.

The EMPD encourages communities to take action to promote social change, and alert survivors to the options and resources that are available to them.
