Weekend crime round-up

An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from June 23 to 25.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:

Friday – A home in Nash Crescent, Sherwood Gardens, was burgled of a generator, a TV, two bicycles and other household items.

• A male taxi commuter was robbed by the occupants of a silver grey Toyota Quantum. The victim boarded the taxi along Elsburg Road near Carnival City at around 15:50.

One of the occupants immediately threatened the victim with a gun. One of the other attackers was armed with a knife.

The victim was assaulted and told to lie down. He was searched and the robbers took everything from his pockets, including his cellphone and cash. The victim was dropped off in Leachville and later discovered money had been withdrawn from his bank account.

• A man was robbed of his laptop by two men at the corner of Voortrekker and Station roads at 18:45.

The victim was waiting for his wife to pick him up when he was confronted by the robbers, one of whom was armed with a gun. The gunman pointed the weapon at the victim and his accomplice grabbed the laptop bag.

Saturday – Tools, car batteries and other valuables were stolen during a break-in at a workshop along Prince George Avenue.

• Three cellphones were stolen during a robbery at a business along Springs Road in Denneoord. Five men, two of whom were armed with guns, gained access to the premises at around 22:40.

They threatened a man who stays on the property and tied him up with shoelaces. In addition to the victim’s cellphones, they also took his passport and bank card.

Sunday – A laptop and clothing were stolen from a car parked at Mall@Carnival.

• A man with car trouble watched in disbelief as a thief, posing as a Good Samaritan, drove off in his car. The incident took place at around 22:00 along Wenden Avenue.

The victim was struggling to park his Hyundai Getz, because it kept cutting out, when he was approached by a man who offered to help.

The man got inside the car, managed to start it and drove away. Four cellphones were also in the car.
