Situation improving for Spurs

The club has found new home grounds.

While things are not perfect yet, the situation seems to be improving for Brakpan Spurs.

A few weeks ago the club was struggling to find a home ground for their matches. That problem seems to be sorted out as they now play at Apex.

The situation is not ideal as the venue does not have floodlights, which means that they have to play the night matches away from home.

This has helped on the playing front as they have qualified for the Eastern League Football Association (ELFA) Cup quarterfinals.

“We are trying to improve our form. The U13 side has also been good as they beat Bundas 5-4 last week,” said club manager Jabulani Munene.

Spurs’ senior side are now halfway through the season where they sit sixth in the league as they prepare to face Alberton in an away match on Saturday.

“Our performances have been balanced. We have been trying because some of the games that we lost were a result of mistakes even though we were in control.”

While they have a venue to play home matches it is still difficult to find a place to train.

“I think if we could train as a team we would win more matches,” said the manager.

“It’s worse for the juniors because some of the players are just learning how to play the game and we have to try to teach them the basics of football.

“Some parents want to bring their children to join the club but we can’t accept too many players not knowing where we can train them.”

Munene remains optimistic.

“The schools close next week so we’ll find grounds during the day where the children can train safely,” he said.

Spurs used to play at the Brakpan Sports Grounds but the venue has been mainly used for music concerts lately.

The grounds were also unavailable in April when the Brakpan Sports Association (BSA) were trying to host Eastern tournaments.

This frustrated the BSA at the time.
