Flying squad arrest 12

The suspects will be appearing in court soon.

Members of the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) cracked the whip, arresting 12 suspects from May 11 to 14.

Possession of drugs
Three suspects were arrested on charges of being in possession of drugs.

Arrests were made in Cranbourne Avenue, Benoni, Station Road, Brakpan, as well as Fazel Street, Actonville.

Nyaope, dagga and Mandrax were recovered in these separate incidents.

Defeating the ends of justice
On May 12 at 16:00, a woman was arrested at the filling station on Tom Jones Road.

According to Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, BFS spokesperson, it is alleged that she was harbouring a suspect, wanted for housebreaking in Dawn Park.

“She assisted him to run away and subsequently evade arrest,” said Giblin.


This woman was arrested on charges of defeating the ends of justice when she helped a wanted criminal escape and evade arrest.

Business break-in
Patrolling BFS members received information regarding a business break-in at a storage facility on Pretoria Road, Fairleads, on May 14.

“Upon arrival, members found six suspects armed with a grinder and crowbar attempting to steal illicit cigarettes from the unit. They were arrested on the scene,” said Giblin.

“Officers further proceeded to arrest the two owners of the unit when it was found that they were in possession of 81 cartons as well as an additional 24 lose boxes of illicit cigarettes.”

Vehicles recovered
Three abandoned Toyota vehicles were recovered during the weekend operations.

The vehicles were found in Harrison Street, Benoni, Heuwel Avenue, Kempton Park and Ivory Park Extension 15.

All three had been reported as hijacked or stolen.
