Security guard spots fire, saves family

After calling the CP Security response team, Samuel Ramohlokoane jumped over the gate to alert the family.

A security guard, Samuel Ramohlokoane, saved a family yesterday (Thursday) morning when he and a passer-by spotted smoke coming from a house in Dalpark Ext 1.

Samuel first tried to alert the residents before calling CP Security, who he works for, to respond to the fire. After making the call he jumped over the gate to alert the family to the fire.

They then put the fire out using buckets and water from the swimming pool after the family noticed their hose pipe wasn’t working well enough.

Samuel Ramohlokoane saw smoke and immediately got into action, saving the family and their home.

The fire was quickly extinguished, with some damage to the roof and ceilings of the garage, bathroom and laundry room.

The SAPS and the fire brigade arrived, along with an ambulance to assist.

Of the family, the mother, Longile Mokoena, and three children were transported to Life Springs Parkland Hospital for smoke inhalation.

The owner, Fanie Mokoena, stayed behind to provide a statement to the fire brigade about the fire. They suspect that the fire started between 6:30 and 6:45 while the family was getting ready for the day.

Samuel and the passer-by spotted smoke at around 6:55 and made calls for assistance at 7:00.

Thanks to the quick response of Samuel, the damage remained minimal and the family didn’t sustain any serious injuries, apart from the smoke inhalation.
