With the Easter weekend looming, the EMPD urges residents to be safe and responsible on the roads.

“EMPD officers will be policing and clamping down on any criminal activities and road safety during this period.

“Most of the road fatalities are caused by driving under the influence, which is the main contributor, unsafe overtaking, driving at excessive speed and more,” explained Thabiso Makgato, the EMPD media liaison officer.

Road safety tips to remember:
• Always buckle up.

• Do a pre-inspection before going on the road.

• Do not drive under the influence of alcohol or illegal substances.

• Obey the prescribed speed limit.

• Avoid using a cellphone when driving.

• Rest at the nearest petrol station if you feel tired when driving.

All motorists must adhere to the rules of the road during Easter. There will be a crime prevention programme on Easter weekend.
