Robbers hit two homes in one day

The criminals took advantage of load-shedding during one of the incidents.

House robbers are on the prowl in Brakpan with two families preyed upon by intruders in their homes last Thursday.

According to Brakpan police, the first robbery occurred at a home along Buxton Avenue in Dalview at around 11:00.

A woman and her daughter were in the house when two men, at least one of whom was armed with a gun, gained entry to the home.

The mother and daughter were instructed to lie on the floor of a bedroom and the robbers searched them, taking their cellphones and jewellery.

The victims were told not to make any noise and the robbers left them to search the other rooms in the house.
The pair fled with TVs, an ID book, cash and bank cards.

Later that evening, during load-shedding, a Sherwood Gardens woman and her son were terrorised by three gunmen in their Wilkens Street home.

The trio, each armed with a pistol, walked in through the open front door at about 20:15. The mother and son were instructed to sit on the floor and close their eyes.

One of the robbers retrieved a pair a shoes from a bedroom and used the shoelaces to tie the son’s hands together. He was also assaulted by one of the robbers.

The men ransacked the house, taking a laptop, cellphones, a TV and other valuables. They are believed to have fled in an Isuzu bakkie.
