Pedestrians, cyclists and joggers urged to be cautious

EMPD tip of the week.

The EMPD cautions all pedestrians, cyclists and joggers to be more vigilant on the road as the autumn season, characterised by longer hours of darkness, is here.

People are urged to wear bright or reflective clothing any time of the day, especially after sunset and before sunrise, to be more visible to motorists.

Cross the road at designated places, such as pedestrian crossings or a traffic signal, if possible.

Do not run when crossing the road and only cross the road when it is safe to do so.

Cyclists must cycle on the side of the road and fit reflective lights at the front and back of their bicycles.

If cycling or jogging in a large group, please have a vehicle escort, that alerts other motorists of your presence.

Remember, never underestimate the speed of a motor vehicle. Always be vigilant of your surroundings.

Be bright, be visible, and stay safe.
