Cleanliness, safety restored after clean-up

The area near Brakpan High School received some TLC from volunteers over the weekend.

The community clean-up group was back in action on Saturday morning and cleaned the area at the corner of Station and Tinker roads in Brenthurst near Brakpan High School.

Volunteers included learners from the school, the CPF, the Brakpan SAPS, the Youth Desk, councillors, AfriForum and members of the community.

Brakpan SAPS Sector One manager Constable Audrey Buthlezi, who also volunteered her time, told the Brakpan Herald the area came to her attention after reports of learners being mugged when crossing the railway line en route to the school.

In addition to cleaning the area, it is hoped that removing the rubbish and overgrown vegetation will deter criminals and keep the learners safe.

Residents wanting to volunteer for future clean-ups can call organiser Mary-Anne Ravenscroft on 071 047 4173.
