Ekurhuleni mayor calls for peace and calm during planned shutdown

The EFF will embark on a national shutdown on March 20.

The Executive Mayor of the City of Ekurhuleni Tania Campbell has assured residents of Ekurhuleni that a comprehensive range of safety and contingency measures are being implemented ahead of the national shutdown planned for Monday.

The mayor urges all activists to protest peacefully and strongly warned that the city will not hesitate to act swiftly against anyone who causes violence or engages in intimidation of businesses, schools or residents.

The City of Ekurhuleni has activated a cross-departmental strategy to ensure that residents and businesses within the city as well as all property of the city are protected on March 20.

Metro police, healthcare services and transport officials are working together to ensure that the day of protest occurs peacefully.
