Weather causes problems for parkrun
The event is also battling to maintain a full compliment of volunteers.
The recent heavy rains have posed challenges for those who want to maintain good fitness levels. The Brakpan parkrun had some of its events cancelled because of weather conditions.
“Brakpan parkrun, based at the sports complex in the centre of Brakpan town, has taken some strain in the past month.
“Due to the recent heavy rainfall, it had been difficult to host the Saturday weekly event as the route became unsafe,” said event coordinator Jillian Sotto Corona.
Sotto Corona has apologised to the participants for this development.

“The past weekend’s event was cancelled, as we are battling to maintain a full complement of volunteers,” she added.
Corona promised work has been done to remedy the situation.
“A new route is being planned to avoid such an inconvenience,” she said.
The director of the Brakpan parkrun said, “We would like to put out a huge plea to anybody interested in assisting with community work, team building and volunteering at such an event which takes place every Saturday starting at 08:00,” she said.

“I would also like to encourage schools, sporting coaches and academies, old age homes, local running clubs, and companies who would be interested in knitting the community together, cleaning up the streets and encouraging the public to become healthier and fitter to join by to either partake or become a volunteer.
“Without a leader and volunteers, this event cannot take place and it would be a tragedy for the town to lose such a wonderful opportunity.”
