Weekend crime round-up

An overview of crimes reported to Brakpan police from February 17 to 19.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:

Friday – Parcels were stolen from a delivery van during an armed robbery along Strange Avenue at around 08:00. The van’s driver was ambushed by a man when he stopped at the address to make a delivery.

The driver was forced into the back of the van and was robbed of his cellphone. The van was searched and the robbers took several parcels.

It is unclear how many robbers were involved, but all were armed with guns and were travelling in a white Mercedes-Benz. The driver was locked in the back of the van and the robbers also took the vehicle’s keys.

• A woman was robbed at gunpoint by the driver of a white Volkswagen Polo in Leachville just after 19:00.
The victim was walking home along Rooigom Avenue after returning from the shops when the car pulled up alongside her.

A man armed with a gun got out of the Polo, demanded her cellphone and grabbed the device from her hand.
He then returned to the car and drove off.

Saturday – A man was robbed of his wallet along Airport Drive in Dalpark at around 09:15. The victim was waiting for a colleague when he noticed a silver Toyota Corolla parked on the side of the road.

A man got out of the Corolla and approached him, striking up a conversation. While talking to the man, the victim was approached by another man who threatened him with a gun.

The gunman told the victim to get into the Corolla, which he refused to do. The two men then searched the victim and took his wallet, which contained a large sum of cash.

• An e-hailing driver was robbed and held captive for hours by two men. The victim received a request for a ride to a location in Brakpan at 20:45 and proceeded to the provided address to collect his passengers.

Two men got into his vehicle. One got into the back and the other joined the driver in the front. The man in the back seat grabbed the driver around the neck while the man in the passenger seat pointed a gun at him.

They told him they would not hurt him if he complied with their instructions. The pair then forced the driver into the boot of his vehicle and drove around with him. They masqueraded as e-hailing drivers and robbed three people of their belongings.

The pair then demanded the driver’s cellphone banking pin and after about two hours released the driver from the boot. They told him to get in his car and drive away.

He had been robbed of his two cellphones and cash. The driver immediately drove to the Brakpan Police Station and reported the incident.

• Tyres were stolen from a truck parked at a company along Molecule Road in Vulcania.

Sunday – A female taxi commuter was robbed of cash and her cellphone by the occupants of a white Toyota Quantum. The victim boarded the taxi along Voortrekker Road at around 11:30 and was travelling to Dalpark.

There were three men inside the taxi. After driving off, one of the men threatened her with a gun. After searching her and taking her valuables, the men dropped her off in a veld in Dalview.

• A silver/grey BMW F30 was stolen from Mall@Carnival.

• A TV and speakers were stolen during a burglary at a home along Hospital Road in Sherwood Gardens.

• A car parked at Mall@Carnival was broken into and a laptop was stolen from the vehicle.
