Assault cases on the rise

Many incidents are aggravated by alcohol abuse.

The Brakpan SAPS has seen an increase in assault cases being reported. Most of these cases occur within the family and many were also aggravated by alcohol abuse.

Police urge the public to report cases of abuse and assault, whether physical, verbal or emotional. All assault or abuse cases opened end in arrest and perpetrators and victims are required to appear in court.

All reported cases are investigated. Victims are assured that their safety is of the utmost importance to the SAPS.

Community members facing abuse can also apply for an interim protection order in court, where after both parties will be summoned to court, after which a protection order will be issued if necessary.

If an abuser goes against the order they will face arrest and possible jail time.
