Easy Christmas traditions to start

Whether it’s watching a movie on Christmas Eve or visiting extended family during the holidays, each one of us has a Christmas tradition that we follow each year.

If you haven’t started a tradition and are looking for something to do, then keep reading.

To keep the Christmas spirit going throughout the holidays try some of these ideas:

• Wrap Christmas themed movies or books and randomly choose one to unwrap and watch or read on that day.

• Christmas crafts. This is a great one to do with the kiddos. Choose a craft to do as a family each day. This could include making your own decorations to put on the tree or painting material to use as a Christmas tablecloth.

• Advent calendars. Instead of buying the usual advent calendars why not make your own.

• A Christmas box. Pack a new pair of PJ’s, a Christmas movie, snacks and hot chocolate to open on Christmas Eve to get the festive feeling.

• Reverse advent calendar. Instead of taking something out, each day leading to Christmas, put an item in a box and donate it to a charity.

• Decorate Christmas cookies. Bake your own Christmas cookies and let the little ones ice them. Make different coloured icing to let them creative.

• Buy/make an annual ornament. Mark each Christmas by making or buying a new ornament. This is a great family tradition to start and the ornaments can be passed down to each generation.

• Sleep under the tree. Camp out on Christmas Eve under the Christmas tree or in the room in which the tree is in.

• Christmas photos on Christmas morning. This Christmas, instead of the typical family in front of the Christmas tree pose, try some of the fun and festive shots. A great shot is always the destruction that the kids do with all of the gift wrapping from their Christmas presents. Do your children wake up really early to see what Santa brought them? If so, you need to capture this moment.

Whichever tradition you decide to start, just remember to keep it consistent and, most of all, have fun.
