Weekend crime round-up

An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from November 18 to 20.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:

Friday – A white Nissan NP200 was stolen from Mall@Carnival.

• A man walking along Sapelie Avenue in Leachville was robbed by the occupants of a white Toyota Corolla Quest at around 20:00.

The victim was pulled into the vehicle and threatened with a gun. They took the victim’s wallet and demanded the pin for his bank card.

The robbers drove to an ATM in Benoni to withdraw cash from the victim’s account but were unsuccessful.

The victim was assaulted and also robbed of his cellphone. He was released three hours later along the N17 highway.

Saturday – A Wenden Avenue tavern owner was robbed of his firearm by two men known to him. The man received a call from an employee alerting him to a crowd of people outside the tavern terrorising customers.

When the owner arrived at around 04:00 he was confronted by the pair, one of whom assaulted him. The other grabbed the owner’s firearm and they both fled the scene.

• A car battery and a toolbox were stolen from a residence along Hoy Avenue.

• The driver of a white Toyota Hilux was hijacked along Heidelberg Road, near Leachville, just before 19:00.

The victim was stationary at the traffic lights when a gunman appeared at the driver’s side window. He was joined by an accomplice who was also brandishing a firearm.

The victim was ordered to open the door and the pair got inside the bakkie and told him to move over. The hijackers dropped the victim off in Roodepoort.

Sunday – Two motorcycles were stolen from an address along Derby Avenue.
