Child assaulted during house robbery

Security guards nabbed one suspect shortly afterwards.

A man was arrested following a robbery at a home in Northdene Avenue on Friday during which a boy (11) was assaulted.

Brakpan SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Pearl van Staad said to the Brakpan Herald when the boy’s mother arrived home at 16:45 she found her son standing outside crying.

“He explained to his mother their home was robbed by two men,” she said.

Van Staad stated although the boy was strangled by the intruders he sustained no serious injuries.

The robbers had taken a laptop and two tablets before jumping over the fence and running away.

“The mother reported the matter to a security company. A few minutes later, the guards returned with one suspect with the laptop in his possession,” said Van Staad.

“He was handed over to the police and detained at Brakpan SAPS on charges of house robbery and possession of the stolen property.”
