Multi-vehicle crash on N17 highway

One injured after car drives into rear of truck.

An accident on the N17 highway near Carnival City on Sunday resulted in two subsequent collisions.

According to Leon Jordaan, spokesperson for Community Emergency Response Services (CERS), they received a call at 03:05 about a truck on fire.

CERS quickly responded and found a light motor vehicle had driven into the rear of the truck.

“Both were on fire with no occupants in the vehicles,” said Jordaan.

“The fire was extinguished with success. As traffic built up behind the scene, a second crash occurred about 300m before the first incident.

“On inspection, a white Volkswagen Golf drove into the rear of another truck that severely entrapped the driver.”

Jordaan told the Brakpan Herald that while medical personnel were attending to the patient, a vehicle drove into the accident scene, destroying some medical equipment and just missing the medical personnel.

This vehicle collided with a second vehicle parked on the side of the road. No one was injured in the third crash.

“A challenging rescue was done by crews of Ekurhuleni Emergency Services and a male patient was rescued out of the vehicle and taken to a nearby hospital in a serious condition.”

Various community role players and first responders assisted at the scene.
