Cash-in-transit guard robbed of cash, gun

Robbers ambushed the guard as he was returning to the van with the money.

More than R100 000 was stolen during a cash-in-transit robbery in Dalpark on Monday. The incident also saw a security guard robbed of his service firearm and ammunition.

According to information received from Brakpan SAPS, the guard and a colleague stopped at a local petrol station just after 11:30.

The guard was returning to the cash van after collecting the money from inside when he was ambushed by two men.

One of the men was armed with a gun and pointed it at the guard. The gunman grabbed the cash trolley from the guard and passed it to his accomplice.

He then removed the guard’s firearm from its holster.

The pair pushed the trolley to a white Ford Bantam bakkie that was parked on the other side of the petrol station.

The guard got into the van and noticed two other men with firearms. He informed the driver of the robbery.

They gave chase but the robbers were able to evade capture after losing their pursuers in the vicinity of the Brakpan Benoni Airfield.

The guard’s stolen firearm, including a magazine with 15 rounds, is valued at R9 500.
