Woman fatally stabbed by former partner in Brakpan supermarket

The incident was witnessed by the victim's colleagues.

A 27-year-old woman was fatally stabbed at her place of employment at a Voortrekker Road supermarket on Saturday. The woman’s former partner (22) has been arrested.

According to Captain Pearl van Staad, spokesperson for the Brakpan SAPS, the incident took place at around 13:30.

She told the Brakpan Herald the victim was employed as a supervising chef and two of her co-workers witnessed the attack. It was also captured on the shop’s CCTV camera.

“She and her boyfriend had problems and she broke off the relationship,” said Van Staad.

“He came to the shop on Saturday and invited her to celebrate his birthday. She refused and asked him to leave.

He then became aggressive.

“The deceased phoned the SAPS and the suspect overheard the conversation. He went behind the counter and took a butcher’s knife and stabbed her several times.”

Van Staad added the man then exited the kitchen and handed himself over to the store’s security.

“After the police arrived, the suspect was handed over,” she said.

The knife was seized and the man faces a murder charge.
