Here is what you need to know about unroadworthy vehicles.

There are quite a number of defects that may cause a vehicle to be deemed unroadworthy. Some include:
• Cracked or broken windscreen
• Damaged windscreen wipers
• Broken headlights
• Tyres with threads depth of less than 1mm.
• Oil, water and exhaust leaks
• Vehicle emitting excessive smoke
• Broken or missing mirrors
• Loose wires within the engine compartment of the vehicle.
• Doors failing to open from inside and outside
• Missing seatbelts
• Minibuses without a fire extinguisher.
• Vehicles without battery clamps.

“These are some of the most common defects that can make a vehicle unroadworthy and motorists are encouraged to make sure their vehicles are in good condition and not found with such defects that could lead to the discontinuing of their vehicles,” said EMPD media liaison officer Ignatius Maphike.
