Enter netball marathon to raise funds for charity

All proceeds from the event will go to the Door of Hope, Woolies Animal Shelter, Wetnose Animal Rescue Centre and the Teddy Bear Foundation

Hammond Pole Attorneys will host an action netball charity day marathon on October 29 at Benoni Action Sport to raise funds for four charities.

According to the company, all proceeds from the event will go to the Door of Hope, Woolies Animal Shelter, Wetnose Animal Rescue Centre and the Teddy Bear Foundation.

“We chose two none-kill animal shelters and two human charities that involve children. Door of Hope and the Teddy Bear Foundation are doing remarkable work and it would be great if we can help them save another abandoned child,” said Hendriehetta Meyer.

Meyer said on top of the charity work the company does, a group of senior managers came up with the idea to increase their philanthropy footprint.

She added that all four charities will send a representative on the action netball charity day.

“The enrolment fee is R1 000 and the entrance fee for any spectator is R20 or an item that can be donated.

“We have also received donations from companies that don’t have the staff to enrol. We are inviting people to join us on the day and bring items that one of the charities can use.

“We will have a hamper that you can buy a raffle for that will be drawn at price giving,” she said.

According to Meyer, the four charities will become a league. The winners of each league will advance to the semi-finals and then the final – with the winners of the competition grabbing a cash prize for the charities of their league.

“All money raised will be equally divided between the four charities,” stated Meyer.

About the charities:

Teddy Bear Foundation

The foundation shelters abused children. It was established in 1986 in response to an urgent need for medical examinations for sexually abused children. It has since grown into a shelter that provides services including forensic examinations, counselling and psychological testing, among others.

Door of Hope

The organisation has been in existence for the past 22 years. It looks after children who were abandoned or given up by their parents.

Woolies Animal Shelter

The NPO was founded in 2003 with the initial aim to sterilise animals. It then morphed into a shelter that houses abandoned, neglected and abused animals.

Wetnose Animal Rescue Centre

It was opened in 1999 to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome abused, abandoned and neglected animals. The centre currently houses over 600 animals.

Entries close on September 30.
