Weekend crime round-up

An overview of crimes reported to Brakpan police from July 8 to 10.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

Friday – A workshop at an address along Graaf Road in Rand Collieries was burgled of tools, gardening equipment and a generator.

• A cellphone was stolen during a break-in at a residence along Kiepersol Crescent in Dalpark.

• A business in Voortrekker Road was broken into and cash was stolen. The intruders gained entry to the building through the ceiling.

Saturday – Three gunmen robbed a business along First Road in Witpoort Estates at 09:00. A man and a woman on the premises were assaulted during the incident. The robbers fled with two cellphones and cash.

• Cellphones and panic buttons were stolen from security guards on duty at a business along 12th Road in Maryvlei.

The security guards were confronted by four men, one of whom was armed with a gun, at 18:20. The intruders fled shortly after one of the men received a phone call.

Sunday – A security guard on duty at a business on the corner of Prince George and Wenden avenues was attacked and robbed by a group of people at around 01:00.

After an alarm was triggered, the guard went outside to investigate. He saw the group and approached them. They started shouting at him and assaulted him.

The guard was robbed of his cellphone and a torch. One suspect was later arrested.
