Suspected mob justice claims two lives

Two men were killed within hours of each other on Sunday.

Two men were killed in separate incidents within hours of each other on Sunday.

Both appear to be mob justice attacks.

The local SAPS were notified at 16:45 that a man had been killed.

Upon arrival on the scene along York Street, near the railway lines, officers were met by the man’s girlfriend who took them to the body.

Stones, bricks and rocks were near the deceased and it is claimed he was stoned to death. There were no witnesses on the scene.

The 57-year-old has been identified and his body was taken to the Springs mortuary.

At 18:15, police were summoned to the Plastic City informal settlement after receiving a report of a murder in progress.

Officers were met by officials from the fire department and EMPD members.

The body of an unidentified man, who is suspected to have been necklaced (killed with a burning tyre), was found.

The deceased lying on his stomach with his head on a tyre suffered extensive burn wounds. Members of the community were unable to identify the victim or the culprits.

His body was also taken to the Springs mortuary. Two murder dockets were opened.
