Woman arrested for stolen vehicle

The driver of the stolen vehicle evaded capture, landing his passenger in hot water with the police.

Brakpan police arrested a 22-year-old woman on Sunday for possession of a stolen vehicle.

Officers were conducting a vehicle checkpoint in the vicinity of Plastic City when at around 11:50 they spotted a white Isuzu bakkie with two occupants – a male driver and a female passenger.

According to Brakpan SAPS spokesperson Captain Pearl van Staad, police members gave chase when the driver turned into the informal settlement.

“The male ran into one of the shacks while the female was arrested,” she said.

“The vehicle was searched and tested positive for a Benoni case. It was seized and impounded.”

Van Staad added efforts are underway to trace the man with whom the woman was travelling, who is believed to be her boyfriend.

Acting Brakpan SAPS station commander Lieutenant Colonel Anneline Naude applauded the members for a job well done.
