A damaged breaker at the Van Eck Substation is the cause of the power outage currently being experienced in Brakpan.
According to the City of Ekurhuleni, a team is on site and the estimated restoration time is 13:00.
Residents have experienced intermittent electricity since yesterday afternoon.
There was scheduled stage 6 load-shedding from 16:00 to 20:00 last night, after which the power was briefly restored in certain areas.
This was followed by a blackout until around 01:00.
Feedback from the energy team, as shared by Ward 97 councillor Brandon Pretorius, indicated there was an overload to the system causing it to trip.
The department was gradually switching on area by area to mitigate the problem.
Stage 4 load-shedding was then implemented this morning between 06:00 and 08:30.
When the power returned after load-shedding, it was on for a few minutes and then cut again.
The damaged breaker has since been identified as the problem and repairs are underway.
