Dogs thrive in their new home

This family is planning on adopting another puppy from the SPCA.

The Grimsley family from Brakpan Central recently adopted their third fur child from the Brakpan SPCA. After the family’s two Labradors died, a friend suggested they visit the local society.

“We did not initially plan to adopt but had to make a plan as our Yorkie, Buddy, became lonely,” Jenny Grimsley explained.

In 2020 they adopted Kiki, a Toy Pom-cross.

In June 2021 the Grimsley family decided to get another puppy from the SPCA and adopted Charlie, a cross-Pomeranian, who was six months old.

According to Jenny, she was drawn to all of the dogs when she met them. “It is important to adopt to give an orphan a home,” she said.

Earlier this year, another new addition to the family was welcomed. Billy was adopted after he was seen repeatedly on the SPCA’s Facebook page.

According to Jenny all of the pets settled well into their new home.

“Billy the Labrador took a bit longer to adapt – it took him about two weeks to settle in,” she said.

Jenny described the adoption process experience as wonderful.

“It is nice to interact with fellow animal lovers like the staff at the SPCA,” she said.

This family prefers adopting rather than buying puppies from a dog breeder.

“I feel that the dogs did not choose where they end up or who they live with,” said Jenny.

“We will definitely adopt again. It is heart-warming to see when puppies are adopted and I know they will sleep in a warm bed, have a full belly and the love and security they need.”
