The South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG) is excited to be launching a new free depression and anxiety support group for moms, on July 13, at 18:00.

This SADAG mental health support group will take place online via Skype every second Wednesday.

SADAG support groups offer a place of warmth, understanding and support to those in need.

Research shows that support groups help people cope with and manage a wide variety of mental illnesses by offering ongoing support.

They also provide information on mental illnesses, self-help tips and coping strategies. Support group leader Lisa shares why she started her support group for moms.

“As a mom who lives with depression, I find that I often put my family’s needs first and tend to neglect my own mental health.

“I know many moms can relate so I wanted to create a space where we as women can prioritise our own mental health.”

“The purpose of this support group is to provide moms living with depression and anxiety the opportunity to connect with other moms struggling with similar issues and experiences, giving them space to talk and provide support to one another.”

When asked why someone should join her support group, Lisa explained that the group is centred around moms having a space in which to be heard, understood and supported without fear of judgement.

SADAG support groups provide supplementary support, which allows members the opportunity to form connections with others experiencing similar troubles and to learn from one another in a non-judgmental, confidential atmosphere.
