Hospice East Rand offers home-based personal care assistant qualification

Applications close July 6 and there are only 20 spots available.

If helping people comes naturally to you, you might be ready for a career as a home-based personal care assistant.

“Care assistants assist people who are sick, mentally or physically disabled or elderly,” explained marketing and media liaison for Hospice East Rand Jonquil Siepman.

“We are very excited to announce we have received a donation for training, which allows us to reach out to community members who would like to train as a home-based care assistant but don’t have the means to get the training,” she said.

“There are only 20 sponsored spots available and applications close on July 6. We urge those who are interested to make haste in getting their application to us.”

What you need to know about the course:
•This is a QCTO-accredited NQF Level 3 course (SAQA 104792).
• The course commences on July 18 at Hospice East Rand, 218 Kemston Avenue, Benoni.

Criteria for acceptance for training:
• Must be a South African citizen.
• Reside in the Ekurhuleni region.
•Between the ages of 18 and 34 years.
• Be unemployed.
• Commit to a one-year training programme.
• Minimum qualification is Grade 12 with mathematics or mathematics literature and English, but insufficient qualifying points for entrance to university or college.
• Preference will be given to students from disadvantaged backgrounds. The combined household income must not exceed R360 000 per annum.
• Must be able to pay own transport costs to and from the training centre each day.

Required documentation:
• A valid South African ID.
• Most recent official academic record.
• Most recent financial statement.
• Proof of income from your parents/guardians (e.g. payslips).
• Social grant documentation.
• Affidavit if any parent or guardian is unemployed or does not financially support you.
• Death certificate of parent/s, if applicable.
• Divorce certificate of parent/s, if applicable.

“Only applicants who meet the above requirements will be considered,” said Siepman.

“If selected, you will be contacted to attend an interview and required to write an entrance test.”
