BEWARE: Housing allocation scam alert!

The City reiterates that RDP houses and serviced stands are not for sale.

The City of Ekurhuleni warns the public to be on high alert following a scam to solicit money from home seekers by faceless fraudsters who claim that they will put them ahead on the housing waiting list.

In the latest scam, these fraudsters have even gone to the extent of opening a Facebook page and using a photo of the HOD for Human Settlements in Ekurhuleni Andile Mahlalutye.

The HoD distances himself from this and warns unsuspecting victims of this scam. The City reiterates that RDP houses and serviced stands are not for sale.

Allocation of low-cost housing and serviced stands is done through a community consultative process, wherein the City and councillors get in contact with the rightful beneficiaries to give them regular updates on the status of their housing allocation.

The public is encouraged to report any act, or suspected act, of housing fraud to the authorities, namely SAPS, Hawks, Public Protector or even report to the National Anti-Corruption Hotline: 0800 701 701.
